Waxing by Gem Book your Appointment Now

Welcome to my website. From here you can book an appointment, find out about different types of waxing and the reasons you should be waxing.

I work from my home salon in Willington Quay, a 5 minute walk from Howdon metro station. It is easily accessible from Wallsend, Newcastle and Tynemouth. A confirmation text will be sent with my full address and postcode on booking. I can take cash or card payments.

Your first wax is understandably nerve wracking. Not only are you about to experience pain, you also have to get half naked in front of a virtual stranger! Don’t worry, we completely understand and we will do our best to put you completely at ease.  If you have a particular style of music, we can put this on for you too.

Here are some dos and don’t for your first wax (or a reminder for subsequent waxes)

DOs…

  • Take painkillers – it sounds dramatic, but some paracetamol or ibuprofen an hour before your appointment will help with the pain during and any discomfort afterwards
  • Wear loose fitting clothing – the last thing you want is chafing after a wax so keep clothing loose to prevent this.
  • Exfoliate before and after – this will help reduce ingrown hairs by removing the dead skin cells which trap the newly grown hairs.
  • Have a warm bath – this will help open up the follicles and make your wax a bit easier.

DONTs…

  • Be hungover – alcohol has a drying effect on the skin, so going to a wax dehydrated makes pores tighter which will result in a more painful wax.
  • Have a hot bath afterwards – Hot baths/saunas will cause irritation and redness; it will also open your pores which could lead to infection.
  • Go to the gym – Gym attire normally consists of tight, restrictive clothing which can aggravate your newly waxed bits.  Sweating in that region after a wax can also cause bacterial infections. Use your wax as a good excuse to miss the gym that day!
  • Panic – I know it’s easy to say but please try not to worry too much.  We do this every single day and we have seen many many women of all shapes and sizes.  We aren’t here to judge; we’re just here to wax.
